Terry Allen White's Obituary
Terry A. White passed into the hands of God on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Chanute, KS. The only child of Mayme A. Perry and Jack A. White, he was born on November 4, 1931 in Tonkawa, OK. Terry was a graduate of Tonkawa High School, Northern Oklahoma College, and the University of Oklahoma.
He was married to Carla Kelley on November 18, 1961 in Ponca City, OK. During their marriage, they lived in Tripoli, Libya; Melbourne and Sale, Australia; Madrid, Spain; Washington State and Tonkawa, OK., before moving to Chanute in 2007. Terry was employed by Continental Oil Company, Esso Standard Libya and Esso Australia, and served as a consultant to Eniepsa, the Spanish National Oil Company. After returning to the U.S., he owned several of his own businesses in Washington State, and then was in real estate as a new homes specialist in the Seattle area before his retirement to Oklahoma.
Terry had been a member and officer of the Bellingham Yacht Club, of Bellingham, WA. In Oklahoma, he served on the Tonkawa City Council, the Tonkawa Historical Society, the Tonkawa Centennial Committee, and the Tonkawa Redbud Jazz Festival. He was an active member of the first Presbyterian Church in Chanute, and was serving as a ruling elder at the time of his death. Terry loved his family, and he also loved his family of friends and his furry kids. He enjoyed being with friends, travel, good food, and musical theater, and had a great love of animals all his life.
Terry is survived by his wife, Carla of the home; son, Dennis and wife Mary of Tacoma, WA; granddaughter, Christa and husband Jason Gullidge; great-granddaughter , Shaylene Marie Gullidge, all of Beardstown, IL; one cousin, Charlotte Perry Wells, of Texas, and his loving feline companions, Miss Peepers and Sammy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved pets; Mickey, Dipsy Doodle, Paddy Winkle, King, Domino, Miss Holly, and Tommy.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial Service will be Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, in Chanute, KS. The family requests no flowers. Because of Terry’s love for animals, they ask that memorials be made to Castaways Animal Shelter and Sanctuary, Ltd. of Chanute, KS.
