Thomas "Pat" P. Wheatley's Obituary
Thomas P. “Pat” Wheatley, 72, of Chanute, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014 at his home in Chanute.
Pat was born in Keats, Kansas on March 20, 1942, the son of James J. and Ellen N. (Chapman) Wheatley. He graduated from Chanute High School in the Class of 1960. He then attended Neosho County Community Junior College for two years.
He was a member of the Army National Guard.
Pat was united in marriage to Billie M. Solomon on September 5, 1964 in Chanute, Kansas. She survives of the home.
He co-owned and operated Caldwell Floor Covering. He worked in floor covering for 56 years until his retirement in 2013.
Pat was a member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge, was a 50 year member of Cedar Lodge #103, a 32 degree Mason, belonged to the Scottish Rite and the Mirza Temple in Pittsburg.
He enjoyed woodworking, singing in the Church choir and participating in Chanute Community Theater.
Along with his wife Billie, he is survived by two sons, Ed Wheatley and his wife Linda of Lawrence, and Tom Wheatley and his wife Becci of Chanute; a daughter, Ann Smith of Chanute; grandchildren, Kati, Thomas, Garrett, Joe, Nicole, Hogan and Olivia; and three sisters, Leah Sutcliffe and her husband Ron of Midland, TX, Peggy Black of Haysville, KS, and Jo Ellen Criger and her husband Mac of Overbrook, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Wheatley; and a brother, Mike Wheatley.
Cremation has taken place.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Chanute. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Memorials in his name may be made to American Cancer Society or Shriner’s Hospital for Children and may be left with the funeral home.
