Tom William Nigh's Obituary
Tom William Nigh, age 72, of Winfield, Kansas passed away at his home February 24, 2019.
Tom was born August 27, 1946, in Eureka, Kansas to Millard and Elizabeth (Woodall) Nigh. He graduated from Howard High School in 1964. In 1966, he joined the Navy and spent 4 years serving our country aboard the USS Ethan Allen. On February 2, 1969, he married Nellie Gray in Howard, Kansas. They lived several places through the years, moving to wherever Tom worked. Before and after the military, he worked for Cessna in Wichita, and then in 1971 went to work as a Police Officer in Eureka, Kansas. In 1975, Tom and Nellie moved to Winfield when Tom went to work as a Police Officer there, where he worked until 2002, retiring as the Assistant Police Chief. During his time as a Police Officer, Tom found the time to go back to college and graduate from Wichita State University with a degree in Criminal Justice.
Tom loved his life as a Police Officer, but outside of work, his love was restoring cars and his grandkids. Over the years, he restored several cars, and his favorite car to restore was a 1963 Ford Galaxie. He enjoyed working with his grandson Andrew, teaching him about cars. They once restored a pickup together that Andrew still owns today.
Tom is survived by his wife Nellie of the home.
