Twila Nadine Sommars' Obituary
Twila Nadine Sommars, age 87 of Chanute, KS, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017 with her family by her side at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, KS. Twila was born on August 27, 1929 in Chanute, the only child of Harry Daniel and Erma May (Luhman) Dill.
On November 15, 1952, Twila married Charles Sommars at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute, KS. They were married for 64 years. As dementia progressively robbed him of both his memory and cognitive skills, Twila served Charles as his fulltime caregiver until April 2012, when her health would no longer permit. He preceded her in death in January 2013.
Twila’s life was one of service to her family. Both as a mother and a farm wife, she helped with every aspect of the family business. From bookwork, driving trucks and tractors, and being a cattle midwife, as well as chief cook and bottle washer, Twila always gave Charles the credit and often reminded the family that “your Dad works so hard.”
