VELMA B. GREGORY
Velma B. Gregory, 98, of Fredonia, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Fredonia Regional Hospital. Velma was born on November 30, 1909 in Toronto, Kansas the daughter of Pete H. and Laura E. (Barnhart) Schaller.
In 1918 the family moved to Oakley in Western Kansas by covered wagon. Her mother became sick and returned to Toronto, Kansas by train. The rest of the family returned by covered wagon. Finding nothing to rent, they came to Fredonia and camped where the “West Park†is currently located. Velma remembered a camp of gypsy’s being there and listening to their music, dancing, and the bright colored dresses the girl’s wore.
On September 4, 1930 at Yates Center, KS, Velma married Max M. Gregory of Coyville, KS. They were married for 43 years until his death of May 28, 1974.
Velma was a Homemaker all of her life, and a member of the First Christian Church of Fredonia.

Marvin Gregory and wife Mardina: Fredonia, KS
One Sister:
Margurite Acre: Henderson, NV
Two Grandchildren: Jennifer Cox and Shasta Lorentz, and two Great Grandsons: Waylon Wescott and Thatcher Cox.
She was preceded in death by: parents, husband, two brothers, one sister, and one grandchild, Misty Lorentz
Cremation has taken place, a graveside memorial service will be held August 11, 2008 at 9:00 am at the Coyville Cemetery, with Pastor Steve Brodbeck officiating.
