Velma Irene Golay's Obituary
Velma I. Golay, age 91, of Fredonia, KS passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 at Yates Center Health in Yates Center, KS. She was born September 24, 1925 in Fredonia, KS, the daughter of Mae and Everett Davis. When she was five years old the family moved to Pampa, TX and years later moved back to Fredonia.
In 1972 she married John Golay, after a long illness he passed away in 1994. Velma was a Time keeper at Lafarge Corporation for 28 years, and retired in 1987. She was a 50 plus years member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She belonged to a study club called Women’s Mutual Benefit, several bride clubs, the Altar Society, and the Hospital Auxiliary.
Velma is survived by her two sons; Darole Walton and wife Shirley of Fredonia, KS, Barry Walton and wife Sherry of Chesapeake, VA, niece; Sondra Harrelson, three granddaughters, one grandson, eight great-granddaughters, and one great-grandson.
Preceded in death by her sister; Florence Cook
Private Family Services will be held at a later date. Cremation has been requested.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Altar Society at the Catholic Church, and may be mailed to the funeral home at P.O. Box 247, Fredonia, KS. 66736.
