Verda Lou Lucas 's Obituary
Verda Lou Lucas, 94, formerly of Chanute, died July 20, 2017, at her home in Leawood, KS. Lou was born July 2, 1923, to Edgar and Viola Zastrow.
Lou grew up in Chanute, where she graduated from high school and attended junior college before graduating from the Huff Business College in Kansas City, MO. After business college, Lou returned to Chanute where she worked for the First National Bank for over 30 years, beginning as a Teller and rising to the position of Vice-President, Investment Accounts. She married James (Jim) Lucas on January 18, 1944. Lou and Jim were active members of the First Baptist Church in Chanute and enjoyed socializing with their many friends and family. They spent many weekends at Grand Lake in Oklahoma, where they enjoyed fishing and boating. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed quilting and needlepoint. Lou moved to St. Louis, MO in 2009 and later moved to Leawood, to be closer to family. Lou will be sorely missed by her friends and family.
Lou is survived by her daughter, Deedra Hartung and son-in-law, Dale, of Leawood; three grandsons, Daken Engmann (Norah) of Enniskerry, Ireland, Matthew Engmann (Corey) of Leawood, David Hartung (Teri) of St. Louis; her step-granddaughter Jennifer Curtiss (Matt) of Lenexa, KS; and six grandchildren, Lucas, John and James Engmann of Enniskerry, Ireland and Lily, Mally and Ollie Engmann of Leawood.
Lou was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 2009.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Chanute. A visitation will be prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. at the church. Interment will following at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
