Verna Lou Piner's Obituary
Verna Lou Piner, age 90, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 in Winfield, Kansas at the Resthaven Nursing Home. Born to John Lawrence and Dola (Baker) Piner on February 5, 1927, Verna Lou was an only child and chose to stay with her parents throughout her life until they passed.
Verna Lou completed high school, worked for a short time in the school lunchroom and remained in Grenola, Kansas until moving to the nursing home, first in Howard at Twilight Manor and then upon its closing, to Resthaven in Winfield.
Verna Lou loved to quilt. She had many, many quilts put away besides those she made for family members and other friends. Many of them have hand stitching and embroidery. Not only did she enjoy quilting, but visiting with her neighbors and going out to eat. She often could be found drinking coffee at either the café in Grenola when it was open and later on at the Senior Center.
Verna Lou was known to do quite a bit of canning throughout the years on the farm. As she loved the farm, it was no wonder that she wove that love into what would become her entire life.
Verna Lou was preceded in death by her parents, John Lawrenece and Dola Piner.
She is survived by a host of distant cousins and several friends.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Green Lawn Cemetery in Grenola, Kansas with Pastor Susan Galvan officiating.
