Vernon Ora Weakley's Obituary
Vernon Ora Weakley, age 89, a resident of Howard Kansas, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the Howard Twilight Manor. He was born on December 9, 1922 in Emporia Kansas the son of James E. Weakley and Maude (Fuller) Weakley.
After graduating Emporia High he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, serving from 1942 till 1946. After graduating from College of Emporia with a degree in Biology, he accepted his first job, teaching and coaching in Moline Kansas, at Moline High School. Vernon served as a teacher, coach and administrator from 1951 until his retirement in 1985. In 1951 Vernon met Carol Ann Fahler, the two were married later that same year. To this union were born three sons, Kelly, Kyle and Lonnie.
Vernon is survived by his wife Carol of Howard, Ks., his sons: Kelly and wife Charlene of Elk Falls, Ks., Kyle of Basehor Ks., Lonnie of Ark City,Ks., three granddaughters: Devyn Schouten and husband Ryan of Piedmont Ks., Lindsey Baker and husband Trent of Ulysses Ks., Laure Weakley of Ark City, Ks., grandson Brandon Weakley of Tonganoxie Ks., and step grandson Joel Haden and wife Trisha of Cedar Vale, Ks. and many great grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 10, 2012 at 1:30 pm at Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard Ks. Pallbearers are the three sons: Kelly, Kyle, Lonnie and three nephews: Brad, John and Mike Weakley. Honorary pallbearers are Kenny Hogan, Elmer Wolf, Joel Haden, Julian Cochran, David Brace and Kevin Mitchell. Interment will be at the Grace Lawn Cemetery. Family suggests contributions be made to the Howard Twilight Manor or the Moline Methodist Church and may be left with the funeral home.
