Wanda Jean Lytle's Obituary
Wanda Jean Lytle, 94, of Iola passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Medicalodges in Iola. Wanda was born to Harry N Pope and Hazel Marie (King) Pope. She lived in Gas, then Iola.
She attended and graduated from Iola High School in the class of 1946. On May 4, 1947, Wanda married Richard A Lytle. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1979.
Wanda was a life-long member of the First Christian Church of Iola. She also belonged to a sorority, American Legion Auxiliary of which she was president for many years; Christian Women’s Fellowship; Allen County Veterans Committee; Iola Housing Authority and Iola High School Alumni Reunion for several years.
During her daughters’ growing-up years, she would chaperone band trips, coach softball teams with her husband, helped with vacation Bible school and many other activities. Wanda loved animals! She was never without at least one pet. Sometimes multiple pets. She opened her door and her heart to many pets when they needed a fur-ever home.
She was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest daughter entered junior high. She helped open Eureka Federal in Iola which has since become Landmark Bank. She worked at the Allen County Courthouse, first in the treasurer’s office, then in District Court, from which she retired. She stayed active in her organizations into her 90s!
Wanda is survived by two daughters: Sandra K (Lytle) Gavin and her husband Leonard, Wichita, and Spring S (Lytle) Sutterby and her husband, Roland, of Iola. Grandchildren include Lindsay (Gavin) Mosher and husband, Matthew, of Mt. Hope; Quentin Sutterby and his fiancé, Megan Phillips, Iola; Kelci (Sutterby) Maier and husband, Sean, Iola; and Erin (Gavin) Powell and husband, Andy, of Park City. Great-grandchildren are Kalista (Mosher) Harper and husband, Kyle, California; Lucas Maier, Ethan Sutterby, Alannah Phillips, and Amelia Sutterby, all of Iola; Kort and Kiley Powell, Park City. Niece, Nikki (Pope) Kyger, Chino Valley, AZ.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Wallace N. Pope, sister-in-law, Irene Pope, and niece, Marsha (Pope) Williams.
Services will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 1:30 pm at First Christian Church, 1608 Oregon Road, Iola with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery in Iola.
