Wanda Ruth McAlister's Obituary
Wanda Ruth McAlister, age 74, of Derby, KS passed away January 24, 2019 at Homestead of Derby.
Wanda was born August 2, 1944 in Grenola, KS to Ralph and Bessie (Storm) McAlister. She grew up the youngest of 9 kids, attending school in Elk Falls, KS until the schools closed, then finished and graduated from Moline High School. She received her Bachelor’s degree, then went on to receive her Master’s degree in Education from Wichita State University.
Wanda worked multiple jobs through her life. She was an Elementary School teacher for the Haysville school district, then a Social Worker for the State of Kansas, which she retired from after 19 years. After retirement, she mostly enjoyed relaxing at home and doing needle work and cross stitching.
Wanda is survived by her son: Vincent and Melissa McAlister of Derby, KS
Grandchildren: Garrett and Riley
Sisters: Mary Osborn and Karen Hey
Numerous nieces and nephews
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her siblings Wilson, Phyllis, Darrell, Darlene, Melvin, and Helen.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 31st at 2:00pm at the Belknap Cemetery, south of Moline, KS
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimers Association or the American Cancer Society and can be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
