William Neil Baker's Obituary
William Neil Baker, 70, of Chanute passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at his daughter’s home in McAlester, Oklahoma. Bill was born on April 26, 1953 in Chanute, the son of James Perry and Zella Luetta (Wiles) Baker.
Bill grew up in Chanute and attended the local schools. Bill loved to be outside, especially when he was fishing. He was always at peace with a fishing pole in his hand.
His grandchildren were his world, and Bill was very devoted to them. Bill was a bit of a jokester, and he was always trying to make people laugh; he also had a serious side to him and could be very blunt when necessary.
Bill will always be remembered for his contagious laugh. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Bill is survived by his five children: Bobbi Jean Wolgamott, Ryan Baker, Randy Baker, Misty Peterson, and Natasha Maher, his two step-children: Amanda Streeter and Chad Warner, his sister Nancy Bockover, brother Robert “Bob” Baker, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents James and Zella, his wife Donna Baker, and his brothers Charlie and Ronny.
Cremation has been requested with a private family service to be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com. Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 101 N. Highland, Chanute, Kansas 66720.
