William "Bill" McCormick Carl's Obituary
William “Bill” McCormick Carl., age 80, of Chanute, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016 in Wichita, Kansas. Bill was born on January 29, 1935 in Cherryvale, KS the son of Paul and Lenora (McCormick) Carl.
Bill graduated Cherryvale High School in 1953 and went on to attend school at Pittsburg State where he earned a master’s degree in education. On August 23, 1956 he married Nancy S. Russel in Independence, Kansas and they had 3 children together. Bill taught sociology and world history at Chanute High School from 1958 to 1994.
Bill was an avid collector of Indian relics since childhood. He amassed a collection of many hundreds of perfect artifacts, many found locally, as well as thousands of incomplete artifacts. In 1992 he was listed as one of the Who’s Who in Indian Relics. He loved fly fishing and he especially enjoyed fishing the rivers in Southern Missouri, especially Bennett Spring State Park in Missouri. He achieved mention in the Scientific Anglers Angling Hall of Fame on multiple occasions. Bill was a devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church in Chanute for over 50 years. He also enjoyed “Coffee Time” with the group at Cardinal Drug.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a son Scott Carl; grandson Matthew Carl; sister Mary Jo McQuillen; brothers-in-law Bob Brothers and Dee McQuillen; and nephew Mark McQuillen.
A Funeral Mass will be held at the Grace Episcopal Church in Chanute on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
