William Riley VanHouten's Obituary
William Riley VanHouten, 86, of Humboldt, KS passed away at his home on July 1, 2018. He was born in Humboldt, KS on March 13, 1932 to Ross Elmer and Ruth Alice (Spencer) VanHouten. William proudly served his country by joining the US Army where he served two years, including a year in the Korean War, and was a proud bronze star recipient. He married Hazel Piatt in Humboldt, KS on December 11, 1955 and she preceded him in death on May 25, 2010.
William was a loving dad and grandpa who cherished his time with family above all else. He was a hard worker who enjoyed fishing, gardening, and cutting firewood. He also had several pets that he loved dearly. William will be missed by those lucky enough to know him.

William was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel; son, Dale VanHouten; brothers, Lee VanHouten and Elmer VanHouten; and sisters, Rita Cramer and Reba Glasco.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Humboldt, KS. Chanute Honor Guard will be in charge of military honors.
