William Henry "Bill" Apollo's Obituary
William Henry “Bill†Apollo, age 91, a lifelong resident of rural Fredonia, Kansas passed away Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Fredonia. Bill was the eldest of five children born to Otto and Elsie (Miller) Apollo on September 29, 1918 southwest of Buxton, Kansas.
Bill was a World War II veteran serving in the Army from 1944 to 1946. He fought in Northern France and Rhineland and was decorated with a Purple Heart. He farmed the homestead in rural Fredonia his entire life, caring for his parents until their death. Bill will be remembered for his warm and gentle spirit.
Bill is survived by one brother Wayne Apollo of Fredonia, Kansas, two sisters Wilma Clarke of Topeka, Kansas and Helen Lohrenz of Marshfield, Wisconsin, three nephews Logan Apollo of Fredonia, Kansas, Danny Apollo of Neodesha, Kansas and Steven Lohrenz of Pearl River, Louisiana, three nieces Susan Rennane of Mequon, Wisconsin, Cathy Strotkamp of Wichita, Kansas and Patti Bays of Prescott, Wisconsin and his loving friends and neighbors.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the Fredonia Cemetery with Rev. Gene Benefiel officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at Countryside Funeral Home. Family suggests contributions to the Fredonia Flag Fund or Fredonia V.F.W. and may be left in care of the funeral home.
