Zella Mae Jensen's Obituary
Zella Mae (Hibbs) Jensen age 89, of Chanute, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 1st, 2017. She was born May 8th, 1927 in Lenore, Kentucky, the daughter of Arch and Lena Magruder Hibbs. She graduated from Bardstown High School, Bardstown, Kentucky in 1946. Zella Mae married John Christopher Jensen Jr. in Chanute on February 18th, 1950. Together, John and Zella Mae raised a family of four; Terri, John Arch, Michelle, and Marvin (Rick).
She worked for a number of years at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant at Parsons, a short stint at Berg Manufacturing in Iola, and finished her working career for Loren Campbell, CPA in Chanute. Zella Mae enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, especially during the holidays. She also had a special relationship with her nieces Glenda Kays (Bardstown, KY) and Beverly Kratz (Scottsdale, AZ).
Survivors include three children, Terri Kirby and husband Allen, Topeka, Michelle McIntyre and husband David, of Chanute, and Marvin (Rick) Jensen and wife Linda, of Minneola; eight grandchildren; Mandy Winter and husband Josh (Olathe), Shawn Kirby and wife Jenna (Ft. Rucker, AL), Jason McIntyre and Katelyn Manahan (Chanute), Justin McIntyre (Lawrence), Megan and Ryan Jensen (Minneola); Clinton Long and Kellie Long (Dodge City), and four great grandchildren; Ashtyn and Kaden Winter (Olathe), Alexis Long (Dodge City) and Kensington Kirby (Ft. Rucker, AL), and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John, son John Arch, her parents Arch and Lena Hibbs, and her brothers; Earl Hibbs and wife Elby, Arch V. Hibbs and wife Jennieve, Veneta Thompson and husband Emmett, and Edwin Hibbs and wife Frieda.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday April 5th at Countryside Funeral Home/Gibson Chapel, 16 North Forrest, in Chanute. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery fund (Cox’s Creek, KY) in care of the Countryside Funeral Home.
