Carl Lynn Mackey's Obituary
Carl “Lynn” Mackey, age 60, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas passed away Friday, September 7, 2012 at his home. He was born on February 4, 1952 in Montezuma, Kansas the son of Carl Monroe and Vera Mae (Stewart) Mackey.
Lynn graduated from Montezuma High School and attended Dodge City Community College and Weber State University. In high school Lynn was the basketball captain and he won lots of medals and broke many records for long distance running. From 1974 to 1977, Lynn served his country during the Vietnam War as a Sergeant in the United States Army, 101st Airborne and was also the Recondo Team Leader of the Curahee’s.
Lynn was united in marriage on March 24, 2004 to Pamela June Stehm in Fredonia, Kansas. He was a member of the Independence Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, NRA and Rotary Club. For many years Lynn worked as a Telephone and DSL Service Technician for Centurylink Telephone.
He is survived by his wife Pamela of the home, his parents Carl and Vera Mackey of Dodge City, Kansas, sons; Carl Duane Mackey of Wichita, Kansas, Adam Leon Stehm, Travis William Edwards, Justin Alton Edwards all of El Dorado, Kansas, Jericho Cody Cavely and Michael Nicholas Moroni Mackey both of Fredonia, Kansas, daughters; Lanesa Adel Poulton of Pharr, Texas, Sherry Elizabeth Edwards and Tiffany June Edwards both of El Dorado, Kansas and Monica Joy Mackey of Fredonia, Kansas, brothers; Larry Joe Mackey of Dodge City, Kansas and Les Ray Mackey of Salina, Kansas, sister Karen Colleen Dastrup of Lawton, Oklahoma, father-in-law Harold William Stehm and mother-in-law Marjory Carol Stehm of Tulsa, Oklahoma and 16 grandchildren. Lynn was preceded in death by one son SSG Bryant Wayne Mackey on February 20, 2008 in Iraq.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Countryside Funeral Home with Bishop Kerry Holyoak officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Fredonia Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Harry Hynes Hospice and may be left with the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.
