Doris Ann Strean's Obituary
Doris Ann Phillips Chard Strean, 98, of Chanute, passed away Monday, March 24. 2014 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
Doris was born in Cherryvale, Kansas on January 9, 1916, the daughter of David Wesley and Lola (Carr) Phillips. She attended high school in Edna, Kansas for 3 years and then attended Altamont High School for 1 year. She graduated from Altamont High School. She then attended Wichita College for 1 year in Business Education.
She was united in marriage to Elmer Chard in 1936 in Wichita, Kansas. Four children were born to this union. He preceded her in death in 1977. She married Orville Strean on August 6, 1983. He also preceded her in death.
Doris worked as a receptionist at the Ashley Clinic for 33 years until her retirement.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Senior Citizens.
Doris is survived by her children Leon Chard of The Woodlands, TX, Leroy Chard of Chanute, Betty Ryan and her husband Frank of Mission, and Billy Chard and his wife Jeanie of Chanute; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Elmer Chard and Orville Strean; one grandchild; and her brothers and sisters, Ermal Hobson, William Phillips, Albert Phillips, Alta Lansdown, Harold Phillips, and Wesley Phillips.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Countryside Funeral Home Gibson Chapel in Chanute.
Memorials in her name may be made to the First Christian Church or the Chanute Senior Citizens and may be left with the funeral home.
