Douglas Harry McDonald's Obituary
Douglas Harry McDonald, 66, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Diversicare in Chanute, KS. Douglas was born on October 12, 1948 in Pittsburg, KS the son of Harry and Nadine (O’Donnell) McDonald.
In 1966, Douglas graduated from Arma High School and went on to Pittsburg State University. At PSU, he graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education in 1970 and then in 1972 graduated with his Master’s Degree in Special Education. Douglas then moved to Chanute and taught the 4th Grade at Murry Hill School for 33 years before retiring.
Douglas was joined in marriage with Patty Steinbauer and they had two children together. They later divorced.
Douglas enjoyed bowling and doing yard work and loved to go camping and enjoying the great outdoors. Douglas also loved to go and watch all of his grandkids play sports. He was a member of the Masons.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his two sons: Matt McDonald and wife Jennifer of Chanute and Adam McDonald and wife Lesley of Olathe, KS, two brothers, Gary McDonald and wife Betty of Frontenac, KS and Mark McDonald and wife Beth of Harrisonville, MO, six grandchildren: Reagan Johnson, Madison, Logan and Brady McDonald, and Trevor and Rebecca Bolerjack and two great grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Chanute. There will be a private family burial at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS.
Family requests memorials to Cherry Street Youth Center and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home at 101 N. Highland, Chanute, KS.
