Fred Mills Bahr's Obituary
Fred M. Bahr, age 79, of Topeka, KS passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018 in Eureka, KS after an extended illness. Fred was born on May 4, 1939 in Topeka, KS, to Carroll Bahr and Grace (Herman) Bahr.
Fred graduated from Topeka High School in 1957 then briefly attended Washburn University. He then worked for a number of years for the State of Kansas. In 1960, Fred began a 6 year enlistment in the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Columbus and the U.S.S. Wilhoite. Fred served his time with the Navy patrolling the Pacific, including Vietnam. Fred was a member of several car clubs and he enjoyed antique car shows. He drove his own antique truck when participating in hometown parades and even as an extra in the movie “Cross of Fire.” Fred also had a passion for swap meets; he would buy, sell, trade or just talk your ear off. Spreading a chuckle was always on his to-do list. He always had some little bag of surprises of odd gadgets to hand out to family and friends.
Fred is survived by wife, Mary Bahr; step-children, Robert Gaddis and wife Mary of Jay, OK and Marla Bailey and husband Chris of Hoyt, KS; grandchildren, Steven Gaddis, Cassidy Bailey, Alexis Bailey and Nicole Biteniks; great grandchildren; Serenity Gaddis and Charleigh Miller; nieces, Michelle Bonjour and husband Dale and Christy Dunn; nephews, Mark Bebermeyer and Kelley Bebermeyer.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Donald and Earl Bahr; sister, Beverly Bebermeyer; nephew, Greg Bahr and stepson, Ed Gaddis.
The family will greet friends on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 4-6 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard KS. Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka Kansas at a later date. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com. The family has requested memorials to go to the Fred Bahr Memorial in care of West Elk Schools and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
