Hal V. Davis' Obituary
Hal V. Davis, 91, passed away on May 2, 2019 at Country Place Senior Living, Chanute, KS. He was born November 17, 1927 in Temple, OK, the only child of Vern and Muriel (Minter) Davis. He grew up in Enid, OK and attended schools there.
On April 3, 1946, he married the love of his life, Janalee Hosford. They recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary.
Hal was an Army veteran, serving as a medical technician in El Paso, TX in 1946-47.
He received a B.S. degree in Secondary Education from Phillips University in Enid, OK in 1958, and later a Master’s degree in Science Education from Pittsburg State University.
His teaching career spanned 30 years, 29 of which were in Chanute. He taught biology and physiology at Chanute High School for 8 years, and physical science at Royster Junior High School for 4 years. He was Science Consultant for USD 413 for 17 years, during which time he taught numerous science lessons in all of the elementary classrooms. After retiring from USD 413, he taught science classes at Chanute Christian Academy. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching, and is fondly remembered by his former students for his wit and sense of humor.
Hal loved his family and enjoyed preparing meals for them. He also loved to sing Gospel music and made it into a ministry. He spent countless hours performing at churches, nursing homes, community groups, and organizations for many years.
He was a member of Living Word Assembly and Chanute Area Retired Teachers Association.
Hal was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife, Janalee Davis; two daughters, Adele Heffern and husband Bob, and Lynette Catterson and husband Jim, all of Chanute; four grandchildren, Amy Torkelson and husband Del of Wichita, Jenny Schoenberger and husband Jeff of Chanute, Shelly Kintzel and husband Jeremy of Jefferson City, MO, and Bryan Catterson and wife Suzanne of Chanute; eleven great-grandchildren, Teresa, Catherine, Gianna, and Philip Torkelson, Jayci and Mason Vietti, Micah and Peyton Kintzel, and Aiden, Owen, and Emma Catterson.
A celebration of life will be held at Living Word Assembly, Chanute, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019. Visitation with the family will be at the church from 1:30-2:00.
