Harold Dale Stroud, age 90, passed away at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, KS on January 8, 2015. Harold was born on August 20, 1924 in Fredonia, KS; the son of Joe S. and Anna (Vollmer) Stroud. He was raised Read Obituary
My sister and I are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Harold. We felt as though he were a member of our own family, considering his hard work and devotion to our father and grandfather at Foster and Son Clothing Co. on Main Street. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Harold.
Harold is an example of a teacher that had great influence on your life, but you don't realize it until years later.
I took current affairs from him in high school. I found it to be very interesting. He and his class provided a window into the world not otherwise readily available in a small town, without TV in our home until later, and then only with two stations and little national news.
For years now I have had an interest in national and international events. It likely was also a spark for the fairly extensive international travel we have been able to enjoy.
A few years ago, I did think about how I developed these interests. Harold came to mind. I had no idea he was still living and am pleased he had such a long, and I hope good life until the end.
Harold thank you for bringing a significant area of great pleasure to my life!

Nancy Zugmier, who posted another comment, is my sister. Our family farm was adjacent to Harold and Berva's farm, so our families were very close. Berva was my Sunday School teacher in our one room church in Urbana, and Harold and my dad took turns teaching the adult class. My brother, Ron, was 2 years older than me. Berva and Harold often had us over to make a Christmas craft when we were young. One year it was a church made out of sugar cubes and icing. If anything had ever happened to my parents while I was young, I'm sure that Berva and Harold would have adopted us. We were in Chanute for our mother's funeral on Monday, January 5. On our way out of town, we stopped at the hospital to visit Harold. So thankful that we were able to see him again before he passed away. And even more thankful that he and Berva are now reunited with the Lord. They are now experiencing what they taught in that one room church.

Harold and Berva were longtime neighbors and friends of my parents, Bob and Dorothy Martin. Harold was my high school journalism teacher and his class, along with his class in current affairs, helped inspire my career in newspapers. I will miss them both and treasure the many wonderful memories.

Mr. Stroud was one of my favorite teachers. I has his Current Affairs & Photography classes at CHS & what was then Chanute JUCO. An outstanding teacher and individual.
