Harold Dale Stroud's Obituary
Harold Dale Stroud, age 90, passed away at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, KS on January 8, 2015. Harold was born on August 20, 1924 in Fredonia, KS; the son of Joe S. and Anna (Vollmer) Stroud.
He was raised in Fredonia, KS, attending Fredonia Schools and graduated from Fredonia High School. After high school, Harold served with the Army Corps 8th Air Force Division out of England during WWII. After leaving the military, he then went on to attend Pittsburg State University and graduated in 1949. Harold fell in love and married Berva E. Ewen on July 23, 1950 in Beloit, KS. He taught classes at Chanute High School and Neosho County Community College for 25 years before retiring. He was also a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Chanute.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Berva; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by two sisters: Lorraine Brown of McAllen, TX and Maurine McCalment of Ft. Scott, KS.
Funeral services for Harold are planned for Monday, January 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home Johnson Chapel 101 N. Highland in Chanute, KS; burial will follow at Urbana Cemetery, Urbana, KS. Visitation is planned prior to the service on Monday, January 12, 2015 from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home Johnson Chapel in Chanute. The family suggests memorials in Harold’s memory be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church and sent in care of Countryside Funeral Home 101 N. Highland Chanute, KS 66720.
