Harvey Lewis Young's Obituary
Harvey Young was born to Joseph Roscoe and Burneda Frances (Blackburn) Young on August 6, 1934. He entered eternal life surrounded by family on February 14, 2018. He was the middle child between a brother, Edwin Young, and sister, Janice Hazen.
Harvey graduated from Chanute High School in 1952 and from Chanute Junior College in 1954. He then attended Kansas State University until 1957 when he volunteered for the draft and served in the United States Army from October 1957 until 1959. After his military service, Harvey returned to the university and graduated in 1960. Following graduation, he worked in Shreveport, LA for six months for an oil company testing various products and procedures and then for a short time at Boeing in Wichita, KS. From there, he returned to Chanute to work for his father, Roscoe Young, at Young’s Welding Company and worked there for the remainder of his career. Harvey worked his way up to President and CEO and played an instrumental role in expanding the business into what it is today. He truly loved his job and appreciated all of the employees through the years who he recognized as being an important part of the company’s success.
He married Audrey Zimmerman on April 21, 1963 in Chanute, KS. They worked together at Young’s Welding for 53 years. This union resulted in four sons.
Harvey loved and cherished his family and friends. He loved coaching his son’s baseball teams, bowling, reading, and was always helping others. Harvey held several positions at First Christian Church in Chanute where he was a lifetime member. Harvey was also a member of Chanute Elks and was a 50-year member of Chanute Masons. He will be remembered for his honesty, integrity, friendliness, and easy smile.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Pat Young.
Cremation has been requested.
A visitation will be held at First Christian Church on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 10-11:00 a.m. in Chanute, KS. A service will follow immediately after at 11:00 a.m. A private graveside will be held at a later date. Memorials have been suggested to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
