I am really going to miss Helen Anderson. She was a presence in my life since I was a little girl. She lived above us at 209 E 10th in Chanute. We lived downstairs and she lived in the apartment above us. I really don’t remember life without her. She was a friend of my Mom’s, a friend of mine and friends to both of my children. She affected all of our lives in a way I cannot explain. A great teacher, wonderful counselor, and gracious, fun and good friend. My good friend Sherrie and I used to ride our bikes to her visit with Cec and her. They would invite us in; we shared good conversation and laughter and off we would go. Through the years we shared several good visits together when we were in Colorado and Chanute. And my last – several weeks ago in Chanute, I will always treasure. I am grateful to have known her. I am grateful for all of the wisdom she imparted, freely, to my children and me. We are all better for having had her in our lives. I am really going to miss Helen Anderson.

Andy was my high school PE teacher, as well as our Drum and Bugle Corps director(1966-68). I remember her fondly; she trained us like a drill sergeant, but also remembering to let us have fun. Under her direction, most years we were the best in the state. I'm aware of her service to Chanute High School, as well as to the community at large. RIP, Andy
Love, Marcia Foster
Miss Andy is a wonderful lady, she helped me to become a better person just for knowing her. I was a high school dropped out, when she learned my story she helped me get back in school and graduate, there were a few times I was going to drop again and she talked to me and I stayed in graduated and even went on to college! I hope and pray my son comes across a few Great educators like Miss Andy if and when he does I know he has the best to have his back and with him having someone like her he will do great things
What a marvelous human being Andy was. I remember her as soft spoken and friendly to everyone. I always felt her display of understanding and concern for each of us assured us we always had someone whom we could rely on. She was a true role model full of compassion for her students. She will be missed by so many. Bless you, Andy.

"Andy" was a great lady and a wonderful leader of many of my classmates and others during her tenure at CHS. The girls/ladies ALWAYS had a top-notch Drum and Bugle Corps, thanks to her leadership. God Bless Andy Anderson.

I'm not sure what I can say to describe what Andy meant to me. I read all these wonderful tributes and they say exactly what I feel. She was one in a million and brightened our lives. She challenged us to be better, smarter, stronger. She had no idea what she meant to hundreds of the young girls who passed thru her classrooms. You will be sorely missed Helen Anderson. God speed and God bless you dear lady.
Andy was a very special lady in my life. I feel so fortunate to have been able to still be very close to her all these years. There was such a peace felt every time I visited her. We were honored to be part of several of her (80's) birthday celebrations. She touched hundred's of young women's lives. She always wanted to help steer her P.E. and Drum and Bugle Corp girls lives in the right direction without being critical. She never stopped caring or forgot any of her students. We will miss her wit, her cute little smile, her asking about the kids and grand kids and her sharing of her Catholic faith. May she be at peace and I can just see her and Cec bird watching in heaven above. Love you Andy -
Helen was and will always be one of my favorite people to visit with. Since I've worked at Country Place she was one of the few people I would go spend extra time with. She always welcomed me with open arms and a listening ear. She genuinely cared about me and my family. I would also ask if there was anything new with her. She usually had a sarcastic reaponse. It will never be the same without you Helen. I along with all the other staff will miss you tremendously. Fly high with the angels but always keep a look out for us. As for the family, I send my condolences for the loss of one of the greatest woman ever lived.
Ms. Anderson will always have a fond memory in my heart. She helped me through some very difficult times in and out of high school. When I graduated high school at a different school, she was in attendance for support. Her support has been with me even through adulthood. She would write and send postcards (which I still have). Even though I left Chanute many years ago, she made a point to make sure I knew I had her support. She will be greatly missed, truly an angel walking this earth!!
