Helen Alice Hinkle's Obituary
Helen Alice (Adams) Hinkle, age 102, died Monday, December 5, 2016 surrounded by loved ones at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas.
Helen was born on April 20, 1914 in rural Piedmont, Kansas, the daughter of Vernon and Lucy Edna (Fee) Adams. She graduated from Piedmont High School and entered into the business of sales, selling Stanley Home Products for many years. On December 23, 1937, Helen married Clifford Orren Hinkle in Joplin, Missouri. She settled down to be a homemaker and the mother of 2 children, Louise and DuWayne.
Helen was devoted to the Lord and it showed through everything she did. She became a member of the Howard Christian Church and when it closed its doors, she attended the Howard United Methodist Church. Besides caring for her family, she cared for her friends---driving all over Elk County to transport people to various events---something that she found very difficult to give up just before entering assisted living arrangements in Eureka. Helen loved to quilt, tearing pieces of material apart and creating beautiful quilts for home, family, and friends. Helen made many a quilt for church bazaars, the fairs, and each of her six grandchildren have received handmade quilts from their grandmother. She also had quite a reputation for her gooseberry pies, which always brought top dollar at many an event.
Helen is survived by 6 grandchildren: Jennifer Harrod, Jeanette Garduno(Leonel) all of Crete NE, Jerald(Barbi) of Howard, KS, Gayle Covey(Lyman) of Valley Center, KS ,Kim Harrison(Paul) of Wichita, KS and Scott Hinkle(Amy) of Liberal, KS. She is also survived by son-in law, Curtis Morgan of Howard, sister, Georgia Ambler of Tacoma WA, nephew Cole Conard(Jeannie) of Severy, niece Carey Triboulet(Ed) of Moline and niece and nephew –in- law, Betty and Barney Gillett of Howard, 10 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren and 2 great-great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifford, daughter Louise, son, DuWayne, grandson Jeff and her siblings-Vera, Frances, Louella, Elmer, Stanley.
Her family will greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, in Howard, Kansas. Services honoring her life will also be held there at 10:00 am. Tuesday, December 13, 2016, with Pastor Stacy Ellsworth officiating. Burial will follow in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Howard.
