Hubert Edward “Ed” Smith, age 77, of Chanute, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016 in Chanute, Kansas. Ed was born on May 23, 1939 in Stark, KS the son of George and Agnes (Butler) Smith. On July 15, 1961, Ed married Rita Umschei Read Obituary
Ed was just a cool dad! I can remember back in Jr. High when he had a car full of girls and at a stop light he said, "Time for a chinese fire drill"!! All when we were listening to Hammer time (Don't touch this!") haha!! He was touched by many. My condolences and many prayers to the entire Smith Family.

Ed was a wonderful generous man Always willing to lend a helping hand.. We worked together for many years thru our careers and I considered him a friend. We had not seen each other as much since he retired but he when we did he was always there with a quick smile, hello and a hug. With heart felt prayers I am sorry to hear of the passing of Ed Sr. I was so very fortunate to know him and call him a friend. He will be missed on Saturday's at Kites and times I saw him in mass. We were all lucky to know him and see his zest for life!! He loved you all so much and I always enjoyed to hear how everyone was doing. If there is anything I can do, please let me know.
