Hubert Edward "Ed" Smith's Obituary
Hubert Edward “Ed” Smith, age 77, of Chanute, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016 in Chanute, Kansas. Ed was born on May 23, 1939 in Stark, KS the son of George and Agnes (Butler) Smith.
On July 15, 1961, Ed married Rita Umscheid in Flush, KS. Ed and the love of his life, Rita, celebrated 55 years of marriage this year.
Ed loved his family and his grandkids were his pride and joy. He was an avid fan and supporter of K-State and NCCC athletics. He enjoyed playing racquetball, golf and loved listening to Johnny Cash. Ed was a great man and will be greatly missed.
Ed was a member and former president of the Chanute Chamber of Commerce, board member for Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center, a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks. He was also an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Paul M. Smith, Sr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute, KS on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 4 – 5:30 p.m. at the church with the rosary following from 5:30 – 6 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment will be at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Chanute. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com. Memorials have been suggested to the St. Patrick Catholic School or American Cancer Society and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
