Irma Lorene Crisp's Obituary
Irma Lorene (Magers) Crisp, a resident of Howard for most of her life, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018 at McCrite Retirement Home in Topeka. Irma was born on April 2, 1922, near Fall River, Kansas, the daughter of Harold and Floy (Hadsall) Magers.
Irma attended Howard High School her first 3 years and then attended and graduated from Fall River High School. On May 21, 1940, she was united in marriage to Dennis Crisp, a country school teacher. Irma was the first school secretary in the Howard schools and kept the job for 11 years. Seven districts were unified in Elk County in 1966 and she became the Clerk/Business Manager of the new district. In December 1979 she quit working to travel with Dennis who had semi-retired from his Zenith TV business in February 1979. In July 1980 Irma was hired in the Rose Hill School District in Butler County as Clerk/Business Manager. In July 1985 she retired from Rose Hill and in March 1986 was appointed to fill an unexpired term as County Clerk in Elk County.
Irma and Dennis always lived in Howard, except when they were snow birding. They had many lifelong friends in the Howard area whom they dearly loved. Irma and Dennis spent 20 winters in Yuma, Arizona, in an RV Park. They participated in jam sessions 3 times a week. Dennis played the fiddle, guitar, and banjo, and Irma at times played snare drum or slide guitar, but usually just listened to the good music. She and Dennis enjoyed the dances, the morning coffees, and park activities with the many friends they made there. They did a lot of volunteer work in the park, Irma being the go-to person to make banners, invitations, directories, etc. on her computer. She also was famous for her delicious apple pies. Irma enjoyed quilting and made beautiful quilts for family members.
Irma is survived by one son Jim Crisp and his wife Denise of Chula Vista, CA, one daughter Suzy Springer of Topeka, KS; grandchildren Ashleigh Crisp of Chula Vista, Valerie Oliver of Marina del Rey, CA, Stacey Bailey of Topeka, KS, and Mike Springer of Collinsville, Illinois; 7 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Janie Crisp in 2008, her husband Dennis in 2009, her son-in-law Jeff in 2013, and her grandson Scott in 2014.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Howard United Methodist Church, with Pastor Deana Allison, visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.
