James "Jim" Leroy Bolton's Obituary
James “Jim” Leroy Bolton, age 81 of rural Fredonia, passed away Friday, June 3, 2022 at his home.
Jim was born October 22, 1940 in rural Fredonia to George and Marie (Apple) Bolton. He grew up alongside 3 siblings, attending school in Coyville and Toronto, and graduated from Toronto High School. He went on to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Emporia State University.
While a young man, Jim and his brother were driving around Fredonia in their convertible, when a couple of young ladies approached them, wanting to ride along. The sparks were immediate and long lasting, as Jim married one of those ladies, Suann Barth, on January 25, 1964, spending the next 58 years with her. Together they raised 4 daughters, and were active as a family, fishing in rivers, ponds, and lakes. One of their favorite things to do was taking boats and pontoons with family and friends to Toronto Lake to enjoy skiing, swimming and cookouts.
Jim worked at many things during his life including working for the county as the Road and Bridge Supervisor, spent 2 terms as a County Commissioner, served as a USD #484 board member, and taught Science at the Altoona Midway. He and friends started Good Riddance Trash service, he operated Tri-Valley Composting for several years, and he and Suzy owned and operated the Country Market in Fredonia for several years.
Jim enjoyed being a husband, dad, and grandpa. He was loved by his family and friends, and will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
