Jerry William Whitworth's Obituary
Jerry William Whitworth, age 69, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2014 at NMRMC of Chanute, surrounded by his family. Jerry was born November 28, 1944 in Chanute, KS the son of Ira and Mary Elizabeth (Gibbs) Whitworth.
Jerry graduated from Chanute High School. He then joined the U.S. Air Force and served from 1962 to 1966. On June 12, 1964 he married Connie Franklin at the First Christian Church in Chanute.
After leaving the military he started working for Nu-Wa. Then in 1969 he became part owner and President of Custom Campers, from which he retired in 2000. After retirement Jerry and Connie started W-W Storage Complex, and also had rental properties. Jerry loved to fish, hunt, and golf. He actually shot the game of his life when he shot two “hole in ones” in one round of golf. Jerry adored his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
He is survived by his wife; Connie of the home, daughter; Lisa Nelson and husband Mike of Bentonville, AR, son; Kurt Whitworth of Chanute, KS, daughter; Cathy Whitworth and fiancé Johnny Gann of Chanute, KS, sisters; Judy Russell and husband Charlie of Seattle, WA, Jeanette Byers and husband Larry of Chanute, grandchildren; Kyler Nelson of Bentonville, AR, Ashleigh Berg, Lacey Whitworth, Jerry Whitworth, all of Chanute, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; Ira and Mary Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 6, 2014, 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Chanute. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home Gibson Chapel.
Family suggests memorials to either Cherry Street Youth Center or Chanute Cancer Center, and they may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
Services are entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home Gibson Chapel.
