Joanne "Jody" Clevenger's Obituary
Joanne (Crismas) Clevenger, 84, passed away Monday, December 19, 2016 in Wichita, Kansas.
Joanne was born September 26, 1932 in Howard, KS the daughter of Clarence and Hattie Crismas. She attended Howard High School, graduating with the class of 1950. She went on to attend Coffeyville Junior College, Emporia State University and Wichita State University, graduating in 1958 with her Master's degree. She taught 1st and 2nd grade for USD 259 in Wichita, before retiring after 39 years in 1992. During this time, she received the Outstanding Reading Teacher Award, as well as being a Wichita Eagle All Star Teacher. She married Eldon Clevenger on August 12, 1955 at Riverside Christian Church in Wichita. The couple did not have children. Joanne was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority, and a member of the National Narcolepsy Network. Through her membership with the Narcolepsy Network, she traveled extensively for twelve years attending conventions, as well as maintaining a local narcolepsy network in the midwest. Joanne took great pride in her flower gardens, she loved to go "junking" and had immeasurable love for animals; especially her cats. She will best be remembered for her extreme generosity to anyone who asked for her help.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Eldon Clevenger; her parents, Clarence and Hattie Crismas; her grandparents Brice and Rebecca Davis and James and Melissa Crismas. No other family survives.
The funeral service for Joanne will be Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.. at Countryside Funeral Home, located at 206 E. Washington, in Howard, Kansas, followed by interment at Grace Lawn Cemetery, Howard.
