Roger Lynn Wells' Obituary
Former Howard City Police Chief Roger “Lynn” Wells, age 64, of Howard passed away Monday, November 13, 2017. He was the loving father of Michelle and Melissa and proud grandfather of Tanner, Faith, Raegan, and Colter.
Born in Eureka, Kansas on July 6, 1953, Lynn was son of the late Robert Wells and Lila (Meisch) Wunderlich. Lynn received his education and graduated from Eureka High School. He later married Patricia Carnahan in Piedmont, Kansas on June 2, 1973. This marriage later ended in divorce.
Lynn served the City of Howard as Police Chief for several years before joining the Elk County Sheriff’s Office as deputy sheriff. He also became an EMT for the county. Lynn worked for the city of Sedan in law enforcement and finished his law career in Wilson County at Fredonia. He was currently working to help his mother in Piedmont.
Lynn was a quiet man with a big, soft heart. He loved kids and his grandchildren describe him as “good grandpa/papa.” He truly treasured his grandkids. He would sometimes get the kids riled up and absolutely loved to wrestle with them. He often took the oldest grandson, Tanner, fishing—which was a hobby Lynn loved as well. Always Lynn was a kid at heart as he had several toys and electronics. He had the latest gadget whether it be a remote control helicopter or as of late, a drone.
Survivors include: his daughters, Michelle and husband Kevin Weber of Howard, KS; Melissa Baumgartel of El Dorado, KS; mother Lila Wunderlich of Piedmont, KS; siblings Carolyn Gulick, Emporia, KS; Annette Wells and Rebecca Courter both of Piedmont, KS, Ronnie Wells of Atlanta, KS and Jody McCollum of Fall River, KS along with 4 grandchildren, Tanner and Faith Weber, and Raegan and Colter Baumgartel.
Lynn was predeceased by his brother Randall (Randy) Wells, sister Marcella Wells, father Robert L. Wells and step-father Jim Wunderlich.
