Ruth Naomi Ponce's Obituary
Ruth Naomi Ponce, age 80, of Chanute, KS, passed away on September 3, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on August 5, 1938 in Chanute, Kansas the daughter of Manuel C. and Savas (Minjarez) Martinez.
Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked as a nurse, obtaining her Registered Nursing degree in 1978. She retired after 50 years, most of which were spent working at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, but lived her life caring for others whether working, or not. Ruth enjoyed long conversations on the phone, outings with her sisters, car rides, cooking and baking. In her spare time she loved watching her “Men in Blue,” the Kansas City Royals, Oklahoma City Thunder, and local sports including the Chanute High School Comets and Neosho County Community College. She especially enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren, and supported them in their sports and activities. Ruth will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Junior Martinez, Ishmael Martinez, and Ruben Martinez; and sisters, Elvira Mendez and Rachel Martinez.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church-Good News Center in Chanute, Kansas. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 at First Baptist Church-Good News Center at 10:00 a.m. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
