Shirley L Haigler's Obituary
Shirley (Rutherford) Haigler, age 101, a former resident of Howard, Kansas passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the Dillon Living Center in Hutchinson, Kansas. Shirley was born December 16, 1911 in Howard, Kansas to Mr. & Mrs. A.V. Rutherford. She attended school in Howard and graduated from Howard High School. Shirley then went on to graduate from Wichita Business College.
Shirley met and married Martin Haigler on June 19, 1932 in Howard, Kansas and in 1982 they celebrated their golden anniversary with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Shirley was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hutchinson and the Silver Leaf Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She held several stations in the Eastern Star and became Worthy Matron in 1965. She was a Grand Representative of New Mexico in Kansas for three years. Shirley was a member of the Order for over 60 years
Shirley is survived by her four sons; Dan and wife Betty of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jack and wife Mary of Canon City, Colorado, Glen and wife Laura of Fort Scott, Kansas, and Clark of Bakersfield, California, 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Martin and 8 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013 at Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas, with Pastor Jeanine Rishel of the First United Methodist Church in Hutchinson officiating. Visitation will be Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to the Order of the Eastern Star and may be sent to the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.
