Treva Jean Mears' Obituary
Treva Jean Waltermire Mears, age 80, formerly of Chanute, KS passed away on Monday, August 15, 2016 in Lake City, FL after a multi-year encounter with Alzheimer’s. Treva was born on November 21, 1935 on a farm near Erie, KS, the daughter of Worth Wedd Waltermire and Jessie May Johnson Waltermire.
After graduation from Erie High School in 1953, Treva graduated from Chanute Junior College in 1955 with an AA degree. She transferred to the Institute of Logopedics at Wichita University and earned an Elementary Education and Speech Language Pathology BA degree in 1957.
On June 23, 1957 at the Mount Pleasant Church in Neosho County Kansas, Treva Jean Waltermire was united in marriage to Donald Eugene Mears. She went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology from Wichita State University in 1965.
Treva and Don resided in Independence, KS for many years. Treva retired from the Tri County Special Education Cooperative in Independence, where she worked as a speech pathologist. The couple moved back to Chanute in 1996.
Treva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Jack Waltermire and a daughter Sherri Ann Mears Ward. She is survived by a brother Jay Charles Waltermire in Garnett, KS and a sister Trula Mae Finley in Chanute, KS. One surviving son Marvin “Mark” Eugene Mears resides in Valdosta, GA.
Treva was an enthusiastic and devoted member of the First Christian Church in Chanute.
Treva will be remembered for her ability to constructively and compassionately persevere in the face of life’s adversities.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Countryside Funeral Home, Johnson Chapel in Chanute, KS on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute.
